Melissa Brown, Lichen and Lichen (shade), detail view
2012
woodcut on rag paper
50 x 55 each

This print involves the concept of one thing hiding inside another. Lichen is an organism that lives inside algae. In this print, the central image is the logo for the Swiss Bank, which has been a place where people could "hide" their money. The print is Brown's "nod" to the hand and the machine -- the central image is machine-milled (C&C milling) and it is surrounded by hand carving.
